Camp Doodles

As part of our Flexible Volunteer Program, Camp Doodles asked us to recruit volunteers to help fix up a building to be used this upcoming summer. Camp Doodles is a summer camp for kids that recently received this building from Dominican University so they can open a location in San Rafael. Formerly the science building, Albertus Magnuson Hall will serve as the new summer camp for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

As an old science building, this place needed a lot of volunteer love before it could be opened for kids! From the floor to the ceiling, volunteers cleaned, prepped, and painted in preparation for this building's grand opening this summer. Volunteer activities ranged from the not so glamorous paint scraping job to the therapeutic culmination of painting the walls and trim. Independent contractors also agreed to volunteer their time to repair the walls, paint, and install carpeting and equipment.

It was a great way to see the community giving back so that Marin County children have a fun, educational way to spend their summer days. And the volunteering was fun, too! We couldn't have done it without the power of cupcakes provided by one of the volunteers or the encouraging words from the "Chief of Fun" David Hughes.
