Broom attack! …come help the fight against this invasive plant! As highlighted on Saturday’s front page in the Marin Independent Journal, Scotch Broom has become a major problem in Marin – Broom is taking over our Marin parks and hillsides and threatening our native habitats. We have to make a concerted effort to help clear the expanding population of Broom in order to protect our indigenous wildlife, which includes several rare plants and endangered animals!
As the paper notes 400,000 federal dollars are being invested in efforts to rid Marin of the invasive plant and we encourage everyone to help in order to successfully eradicate the plant. Come join other Flex volunteers this coming Saturday, January 5th and help protect the Old St. Hillary's Preserve in Tiburon with the Marin Open Space District from Broom. Old St. Hillary's Preserve has seen a sharp decrease in its ecological diversity as now a large portion of the preserve is almost entirely covered by Broom plants. With your help we can effectively preserve the natural habitat at the preserve and help the County in its mission to remove Broom entirely from Marin.
